अपने पिछले मुकाबलों में शानदार प्रदर्शन करने वाली भारत की सीनियर टीम को 16वें विश्व ब्रिज ओलंपियाड के फाइनल में अमेरिका से 165-258 से हारने के कारण रजत पदक से संतोष करना पड़ा।
भारतीय टीम में कमल मुखर्जी, विभास टोडी, बादल दास, प्रणब बर्धन, अरुण बापट, रवि गोयनका और गैर खिलाड़ी कप्तान गिरीश बिजूर शामिल थे। भारतीय टीम ने 96 बोर्ड के फाइनल में शुरू में अमेरिका की टीम के सामने कड़ी चुनौती पेश की। अमेरिका की टीम ने हालांकि दो दिन तक चल फाइनल में आखिर तक अपनी लय बनाए रखी।
इस बीच इसी प्रतियोगिता के साथ खेली गई युगल स्पर्धा में संजीत डे और बिनोद साव की युवा भारतीय जोड़ी ने भी अपने प्रदर्शन से प्रभावित किया।
