भारत के पूर्व ऑलराउंडर युवराज सिंह ने इस जेनरेशन के बेस्ट प्लेयर का नाम बताया है। युवराज का मानना है कि देश के स्टार बल्लेबाज शुभमन गिल में इस पीढ़ी का सर्वश्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ी बनने की क्षमता है। गिल निश्चित रूप से भारतीय क्रिकेट के उभरते सुपरस्टारों में से एक हैं। 24 वर्षीय यह खिलाड़ी इस समय भारतीय टीम के सर्वश्रेष्ठ बल्लेबाजों में से एक है और तीनों फॉर्मेट की टीम का हिस्सा है।
वर्ल्ड कप 2023 से पहले द वीक से बात करते हुए युवराज सिंह ने कहा, "शुभमन गिल में इस पीढ़ी के सर्वश्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ी बनने की क्षमता है। लड़का कड़ी मेहनत करता है। 19-20 साल की उम्र से ही उनका रवैया हमेशा ऐसा ही रहा है। वह बचपन से ही एक सामान्य व्यक्ति की तुलना में चार गुना अधिक मेहनत करते आ रहे हैं। मैंने उनके साथ जो भी काम किया है, वह इस युग के खिलाड़ी हो सकते हैं।"
युवराज ने आगे कहा, "उन्होंने (गिल) एक टेस्ट मैच में 91 रन बनाए थे, जिसे भारत ने जीता था। उन्होंने ऑस्ट्रेलिया के अपने पहले दौरे पर भी दो अर्धशतक बनाए, जो मुझे नहीं पता कि कितने खिलाड़ियों ने किया है। मुझे यकीन है कि वह ऑस्ट्रेलिया, दक्षिण अफ्रीका के साथ-साथ इंग्लैंड में भी रन बनाएंगे।" गिल इस साल सबसे ज्यादा रन बनाने वाले वनडे बल्लेबाज हैं।
