तीन दिन पहले एक विचाराधीन कैदी पुलिस हिरासत से भाग निकला था। उसने रिवाल्वर छीनकर दो पुलिसकर्मियों को फायरिंग में घायल भी कर दिया था। अब शनिवार तड़के मुठभेड़ में विचाराधीन कैदी सज्जाक मारा गया।
पुलिस का कहना है कि वह बांग्लादेश भागने की फिराक में था। मामला पश्चिम बंगाल के उत्तर दिनाजपुर जिले के ग्वालपोखर का है। राज्य पुलिस ने दावा किया है कि फरार अपराधी ने पहले गोलियां चलाईं। इसके बाद पुलिस को मजबूरन गोली चलानी पड़ी।
घटना को लेकर राज्य पुलिस के एडीजी (कानून- व्यवस्था) जावेद शमीम ने यहां पुलिस मुख्यालय भवानी भवन में एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि सज्जाक बांग्लादेश भागने की फिराक में था। उन्होंने कहा कि पुलिस को इसकी खबर मिलते ही कई टीमें गठित की गई और बांग्लादेश सीमा पर कई स्थानों पर भेजा गया।
