34 साल पहले 1989 में वेस्ट बंगाल के रानीगंज में एक ऐसा हादसा हुआ था, जिसकी कहानी अब पर्दे पर दिखाई जाएगी। फिल्म का नाम है 'मिशन रानीगंज', जिसका ट्रेलर अब रिलीज हो गया है। इस मूवी में अक्षय कुमार IIT धनबाद के माइनिंग इंजीनियर जसवंत सिंह गिल का किरदार निभाएंगे, जिन्होंने अपनी सूझबूझ से 65 माइनर्स की जिंदगी बचाई थी। इस तरह का रेस्क्यू इंडिया में पहली बार हुआ था।
'मिशन रानीगंज' एक सर्वाइवल थ्रिलर मूवी है, जिसे टीनू सुरेश देसाई ने डायरेक्ट किया है। इसे विपुल के रावल ने लिखा है। यह पश्चिम बंगाल में 1989 के रानीगंज कोलफील्ड्स के ध्वस्त होने पर बेस्ड है। फिल्म में अक्षय के साथ परिणीति चोपड़ा भी हैं, जो उनकी ऑनस्क्रीन वाइफ के रोल में नजर आएंगी।
'मिशन रानीगंज' का नाम पहले 'कैप्सूल गिल' रखा गया था। बाद में इसे बदलकर 'द ग्रेट इंडियन रेस्क्यू' किया गया। फिर फाइनली इसका नाम 'मिशन रानीगंज: द ग्रेट भारत रेस्क्यू' किया गया।

फिल्म में अक्षय और परिणीति के अलावा कुमुद मिश्रा, रवि किशन, पवन मल्होत्रा, वरुण बडोला, दिब्येंदु भट्टाचार्या, राजेश शर्मा, जमील खान सहित कई सितारे हैं।
