मुंबई हमलों के मास्टरमाइंड हाफिज सईद के करीबी रिश्तेदार और प्रतिबंधित जमात-उद-दावा के उप प्रमुख हाफिज अब्दुल रहमान मक्की की शुक्रवार को लाहौर में दिल का दौरा पड़ने से मौत हो गई। खबर के मुताबिक मक्की की मौत हार्ट अटैक के चलते हुई। मक्की को आतंकवाद विरोधी अदालत ने 2020 में आतंकवाद की फंडिगं के मामले में छह महीने की कैद की सजा सुनाई थी। इस मामले में सजा सुनाए जाने के बाद से ही वह सुर्खियों से दूर रहा था।
2023 में, मक्की को संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने वैश्विक आतंकवादी घोषित किया था, जिसके तहत उसकी संपत्ति जब्त कर ली गई। उस पर यात्रा प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया और हथियार प्रतिबंध लगा दिए गए। मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक हाफिज सईद के साथ मक्की भी 2008 के मुंबई हमले की साजिश में शामिल था। बता दें 26 नवंबर 2008 को लश्कर-ए-तैयबा के 10 सदस्यों ने मुंबई में विभिन्न लोकेशन पर हमला बोल दिया।
आतंकवियों ने छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज टर्मिनस, ओबेरॉय ट्राइडेंट, ताज महल पैलेस और टॉवर होटल, लियोपोल्ड कैफे, कामा अस्पताल, नरीमन हाउस,मेट्रो सिनेमा, और टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया बिल्डिंग और सेंट जेवियर्स कॉलेज के पीछे की गली, मुंबई के बंदरगाह क्षेत्र मझगांव में और विले पार्ले में एक टैक्सी पर हमला किया। आतंकियों ने 166 लोगों की हत्या कर दी। आतंकवादी आमिर अजमल कसाब जीवित पकड़ लिया गया, जबकि उसके बाकी साथी मारे गए।
